a media+live performance @ Hong Kong On the Move Performance Art Project
|
||||
Part 1
was presented at a balcony space, Osage Open. Just like other work in
the series, a pre-edited video mixing the government's celebration of
the 10th anniversary of Handover to mainland China and people"s protest
to achieve universal suffrage in 2012 and to the demolishing of colonial
architecture in Hong Kong such as Star Ferry Clock Tower and the Queen's
Pier was presented together with live performance. After my ritual singing
of the National Anthem in Cantonese, members of audience were invited
to create an accurately-measured flag of People's Republic of China with
their thumbprints on my T-shirt
in a festive mood. After all, the "HK" typeface was covered
by lots of red thumbprints with 4 yellow stars marked – where is Hong
Kong when we blindly celebrating the Handover? |

Part 2 of the performance was presented in Edinburgh Place, near the former location of Star Ferry Tower and Queen’s Pier. With my T-shirt on, I interacted with the public art sculpture in the Place with reference to the current issues on demolishing colonial architecture, universal suffrage, etc. For example, audience were invited to lift the sculptural suitcase with my chalk writing “1997” and “2012” on it, to have a toast with the sculpture celebrating the 10th anniversary of Handover, etc. | ||||
